Stitching for the Soul

Thank you all for your kind thoughts, you have made things a bit more bearable. I am now focusing my energies on creating new work in time for my assessment in September.

I have spent the past couple of days stitching together 12 metres of silk habotai by hand. It was good to have a big project to work on. Yesterday I sat and finished the last seam while watching Brightstar. Thanks to Bridget for reminding me I hadn't seen it yet (you can see the trailer here). There was something very soothing about sitting and stitching, a meditative action.

I am really enjoying the massive scale I have started working at, it seems somehow liberating. Yet I am keen to retain an attention to detail I can only achieve with hand stitch. Stitch is good for the soul.

  1. Hannah, so glad to hear you're moving on from the shock you had last week. I couldn't think of anything useful to say so I didn't leave a comment but have been thinking of you lots. I watched Bright Star again recently (I saw it twice at the cinema!), its so beautiful and Fanny's stitching is certainly inspiring!
